Dr Jackie Bene, Chief Executive of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list for her services to healthcare.
Jackie, Consultant in Acute and Geriatric Medicine, came to Bolton in 1998 as Clinical Lead for Older People’s Services, being appointed Medical Director in 2008 and Chief Executive in 2014. She has made a considerable contribution to public services in Bolton including, in the earlier part of her career, the important development of intermediate care and the establishment of a falls service.
Her achievements as Chief Executive include her inspirational leadership during a time of great financial difficulty for the Trust and her ongoing dedication to the highest levels of patient care. Jackie has achieved all of this whilst still remaining a practising clinician at the Royal Bolton Hospital – a rare quality in a Chief Executive.
Jackie said: “I’m flattered, surprised and delighted to receive an OBE. During the time I’ve worked in Bolton a great deal has been achieved. Working with our partners we’ve been instrumental in leading many high quality initiatives across local health services. Currently the Trust is playing its part in transformational projects across Greater Manchester, in which I’m pleased to represent Bolton. That said, it has always been wonderful to be here working for, and with, the people of Bolton and beyond, and in particular our tremendous staff.”
Trust Chairman David Wakefield said: “I’m delighted for Jackie. This is a tremendous recognition of the impact she has had on local health services over many years. Patient care in Bolton and beyond has been utterly transformed thanks to her passion and leadership.
“The award is a well-deserved honour that represents years of dedication and hard work, for the benefit of all patients.”
Jackie sends the following In response to the many messages of support and congratulations that she has received:
“Thank you so much to all my well wishers. It’s been a joy to journey together over the years and your support means such a lot.”
