Reference 2017-142

REF:            2017-142

Subject:        Cancelled elective operations

Request:

Firstly, since 1st April 2010 what has been the maximum cost to the Trust of an elective operation being cancelled last-minute for non-clinical reasons? Please give additional detail as to what the operation was and how many members of staff were supposed to be working on the operation.

Secondly, please provide the total number of elective operations cancelled last-minute for non-clinical reasons for each quarter going back to 2010.

Thirdly, please provide the total quarterly cost of elective operations being cancelled last-minute for non-clinical reasons for each quarter going back to 2010.

For my second and third query, I attach an Excel document with a table for ease of inputting the data. I would be most grateful if you would use it.

Response:

The Trust doesn’t hold financial/cost data for cancelled operations.

The information you have requested regarding the total number of elective operations cancelled last-minute for non-clinical reasons for each quarter going back to 2010 is already in the public domain and readily available using this link https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/cancelled-elective-operations/cancelled-ops-data/
