Subject:        Sleeping during night shifts

Request:

1) Does your trust have a written policy on staff sleeping during night shifts?

2) Does this policy cover doctors working at the trust?

3) If yes, does this policy support doctors to take short “power naps” (15-20 minute duration) during night shift breaks?

4) Does the policy prohibit doctors from getting any sleep during a night shift (even in their breaks)?
5) Does the Trust provide appropriate facilities – a room which is separate, quiet, and dark with a bed or reclining chair –  where doctors who choose to do so can take power naps during their night shifts?
