New equipment

The breast screening programme now provides a fully digital mammography service. Three new sites have opened within the past two years: Radcliffe Health Centre, Bolton One and Nye Bevan House in Rochdale. These three sites offer state of the art digital imaging for all ladies attending for screening through the programme. The Royal Bolton Hospital also has the same state of the art digital mammography imaging.

Equipment donated by Boot Out Breast CancerTheatreNewEquipment-2_24thJan2012s

Boot Out Breast Cancer is a charity which has raised funds specifically to buy equipment for Bolton Breast Unit worth over £70,000. Two substantial pieces of equipment have been purchased to assist in the patients’ treatment pathway.

One of the two pieces of equipment donated is a biovision specimen cabinet which allows the surgeon to immediately visualise (by digital imaging) the breast tissue for removal in theatre. This reduces the time that the patient needs to be under a general anaesthetic.

The second piece of equipment is a gamma probe which is a surgical device needed to identify lymph nodes for removal during breast cancer surgery.

We are extremely grateful for the equipment and it will greatly benefit our patients.
