All professional staff participate in a programme of continuous development to remain competent to practice and able to re-register with the relevant independent professional bodies i.e. Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Radiologists, Royal College of Pathologists, Nursing and Midwifery Counsel and the College of Radiographers.
Regular meetings ensure that all staff are kept up to date with any changes in the department and all aspects of the patient pathway from the breast clinic, to inpatient and community services.
We are also particularly proud of gaining recognition for our work on the Exemplar Programme which was developed here at Bolton as a tool to raise standards in patient care. Through this programme the department identified areas for improvement, made changes to enhance the service and passed an assessment to show that high standards of care are being met.
We continually monitor quality standards and regular patient surveys are evaluated and action plans are produced to address any issues identified.
We are continually involved in providing validation evidence for Cancer Peer Review. This annual review requires the service to be assessed against a given set of measures outlined in the national document.
