Two new non-executives appointed

The former Chief Executive of Burnden Leisure PLC and a retired senior NHS Director with a strong clinical background have been appointed to the Board of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust as non-executive directors.

From 1998 to 2012, Allan Duckworth, 59, was Chief Executive of Burnden Leisure PLC a sports and leisure organisation including Bolton Wanderers FC and De Vere Whites Hotel.  A qualified chartered management accountant, he has been Finance Director at Umbro Europe Ltd., Lo-Cost Stores Ltd.. Vernons Organisation Ltd. as well as a senior consultant at Price Waterhouse. He has over twelve years experience as a non-executive director of Bolton Whites Hotel Ltd, Bolton Middlebrook Leisure Trust Ltd, and Bolton Arena Trading Ltd.

An experienced leader, Mr Duckworth has a track record of implementing modern management process and practice through people, technology, reporting, partnerships, product, brand and customer service.

Gina Ashworth, 55, was Director of Health Standards/Clinical Director at NHS Central Lancashire (Provider Services) before retiring in December 2010 having worked within the NHS for 37 years.  She has Board and sub Board experience over  17 years during which time she had  responsibility and accountability  for the clinical workforce employed in a number of organisations, namely, NHS Central Lancashire, Preston PCT, Guild Community Mental Health Trust, NHS Executive Northwest and Leeds Community Mental Health Trust.

A qualified nurse and midwife, Mrs Ashworth has given leadership and rigour to a range of services, programmes and initiatives keeping quality and corporate governance at the top of the agenda.

Mr Duckworth and Mrs Ashworth take over as non-executive directors from Arthur Rawlinson and Margaret Blenkinsop, who have each concluded two four year terms in office.

 Trust Chairman David Wakefield thanked Mr Rawlinson and Mrs Blenkinsop, and announced Mr Duckworth and Mrs Ashworth’s appointments by the Trust governors. 

 He said: “I’d like to thank Arthur and Margaret for the time and service they have given to the Trust and to local people.”

“I’m very pleased to welcome Allan and Gina to the Board and believe their experience will be an asset to the organisation.”
