The Big Hospital Smoking Debate

The Big Hospital Smoking DebateThe Trust has a dilemma. We currently have a whole site ban on smoking at the Royal Bolton Hospital, but it is difficult to enforce and people still smoke on site – especially near entrances. We get complaints from patients, visitors and staff about having to walk through clouds of smoke and it has been suggested that we manage the situation by bringing back some smoking shelters. But others say that this would be a backward step when we should be promoting healthy life styles. There are many issues involved in this controversial topic.

The Trust has decided to listen to the views of the public and staff and the issues are going to be debated in The Bolton News, starting on Monday, June 3rd. People will be able to vote whether or not we should bring the shelters back, with votes having to be received before 12 noon on Monday June 17th.
