Smoke Hazard on C4 Ward

At 7:30 a.m. this morning a light fitting fault on C4 ward at the Royal Bolton Hospital caused a significant smoke hazard. Our staff have worked with the fire service to safely and quickly evacuate all patients onto neighbouring D4 ward. All patients were transferred safely and no patients or members of staff have been harmed as a result of this fault.

The fire service left the hospital site at 8:30 a.m. and members of hospital staff are now taking the appropriate steps to reduce any smoke damage and make the ward safe for our patients. It is anticipated that this will be complete and the ward reopen by the end of the weekend.

All relatives of patients on this ward have been contacted individually and made aware of the situation. The safety of our patients is of paramount importance, and we praise the swift actions of the staff members involved in the evacuation this morning.
