Support for carers and patients living with dementia

Community support group for carers and dementia patientsKerry Lyons, Admiral Nurse, is based in the community every Tuesday to support carers and patients living with dementia. The community support programme was recently set up at the Thicketford Centre to offer education around prevention, improved resilience and advice on how to stay well and avoid admission to hospital.

Each week there is a session aimed at supporting carers which covers topics such as advanced care planning, nutrition, wandering behaviour and falls prevention. There is also a monthly session for carers which allows them to take time out for themselves, for example yoga, relaxation and mindfulness, whilst people living with dementia can take part in other activity sessions.
