Creating award worthy systems to monitor COVID absence

Our team are busy preparing for the next stage in the judging process for this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, which if successful, will see them crowned the winner of the Information Sharing and Data Integration Award at the awards event in June.

Our Workforce Systems team created a reporting dashboard for COVID-19 sickness absence during the pandemic. The goal was to develop a system which would clearly identify staffing shortages due to the pandemic, giving us a daily snapshot of where the staffing gaps are and how we could address this. It also enabled us to bring staff back to work as quickly as possible, ensuring that isolation periods did not over-run and ensuring that staff were rostered back onto shifts as soon as possible when a negative test result was returned. 

We worked in partnership with our rostering system supplier, Allocate Software to develop an automated solution, which ultimately resulted in a free report for other NHS organisations who hosted their rostering data with Allocate.

This innovative piece of work has now been shared across the NHS and is playing a crucial part in monitoring absence levels as the pandemic continues.
