Volunteers congratulated on their contribution throughout the pandemic

Yesterday, our Chair, Donna Hall, and our Volunteer Co-ordinator, Chris Mills, presented some of our volunteers who have continued to work with us throughout the pandemic with a certificate to acknowledge the outstanding contribution that they have made to the organisation over what has been a difficult 12 months.

Donna Hall said: “We’re so grateful for the support of our volunteers which has helped us through the biggest crisis since the Second World War. Please can I thank all of our volunteers on behalf of the Board, for supporting our staff and patients, supporting the vaccination programme, and for everything else that they contribute. They really are incredible and they do it from the goodness of their hearts – thank you.”

All of our volunteers play a key role in supporting our staff to deliver our services and provide the best possible care, and we would like to thank them all for their commitment and the kindness that they portray to everyone they come into contact with.

Oliver Lodmore started volunteering with the Trust in May 2020 having just finished high school and works in our Emergency Department. A typical day can include making sure supplies in the department are fully stocked up, talking to patients and reassuring them, and being an extra set of hands to assist staff with whatever he can.

Oliver said: “I really enjoy that I get out of it what I put in. The staff are great and talk to me and teach me about things that I’m interested in as they recognise my future aspirations to be a paramedic.”

Volunteering can be an opportunity to gain experience in the health care sector, and some of our volunteers have gone on to gain employment with us.

As we move into recovering from the pandemic, our volunteers will be as important as ever, and with the lifting of some of the restrictions that have been in place, we have now started recruiting for new volunteers.

If you are someone with a passion for the NHS and the services we provide, and would like to assist our staff and patients by giving up some of your time to volunteer with us then please visit our vacancies page on our website: http://jobs.boltonft.nhs.uk/job_list/s9/Volunteers?_ts=1
