Professional Background

Dr McMahon graduated from the University of St Andrews with a BSc in 1996 and then Medicine MBChb from Manchester in 1999. She completed her paediatric training in the North West as well as spending a year in Australia doing Emergency Medicine.

Dr McMahon subspecialised in paediatric neurodisability and spent three years training with the community team in Bolton and Manchester. She was a consultant in Wigan for nine years before joining the team in Bolton in October 2019 in the new integrated community paediatric hub in Breighmet.

Professional membership: Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health; British Medical Association; British Association of Community Child Health; Manchester Medical Society; British Academy of Childhood Disability, of which she is also the North West representative.

Special Interests and Research

Paediatric neurodisability, autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, epilepsy, safeguarding, Greater Manchester joint agency response to child death.

Child Health in the Community

Community paediatricians are specialist children’s doctors who see children mostly in community based settings, out of hospital. We aim to provide high quality, appropriate assessment, treatment and care for children and young people and their families in Bolton.
