Teamworking in the Emergency Department is vital. Our clinical staff work closely together to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Here are some of the staff you may meet during your visit:
A pool of over 30 doctors work in the department. There are ten consultants with a range of different interests within emergency medicine. They work on the shop floor every day, and are available to give expert advice at all times.
Our highly skilled nurses look after you while you are in the department. Some of our nurses have extended or specialist roles. You may be seen and assessed by a nurse practitioner instead of a doctor. Acute chest pain nurses assess and treat patients with chest pain. The Paediatric Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours a day by experienced children’s nurses who are specialists at dealing with injured or sick children.
We have physiotherapy practitioners who have done further training and work in the minor injuries area of the department. They also run physiotherapy clinics in the department.
We also have a dedicated team of clerical staff, and you may encounter security personnel or members of the hospital inpatient teams.
