What do we offer?

The Health Improvement Team (HIT) is a newly created service as of October 2017.

We are the go-to team for any groups, services and settings wanting training and support on how to promote a healthy lifestyle to the people they work with.

Our Aims

We aim to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Bolton, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for children under the age of five.  We want to help:

  • Reduce infant mortality and morbiditythrough supporting pregnant women and families to stop smoking and keep homes and cars smoke-free
  • Reduce excess weight at reception agethrough supporting families to eat well and be more physically active
  • Reduce tooth decay in childrenthrough supporting families to eat well, brush teeth, use free-flow cups and access a dentist
  • Improve children’s emotional health and resiliencethrough supporting families to form caring supportive relationships and good personal life skills
  • Improve school readiness through supporting families to ensure their child is ready and able to learn by eating well, being more physical activity, going smoke free and forming supportive relationships

To achieve this, we aim to help young children adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours. However their ability to do this largely depends on whether their parents, other family members and carers and the settings in which they spend a large amount of time are role modelling those healthy behaviours too. Therefore, our service takes a whole family-whole setting approach to our work.
