Mental Health Awareness Day – 10th October 2017


Events over Summer Holidays 2017

CAMHS are holding the following groups over the summer holidays 2017:

Drama Group

This will be held on Monday nights, 5-7pm at Bolton Library, for Young People  aged 12 plus, who are open to Bolton CAMHS

Drama Days

These will be held at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton Town Centre on:
21st August 2017,  10.00am – 4.00pm
22nd August 2017,  10.00am -5 .00pm
23rd August 2017, 10.00am – 5.00pm

The above Days are for Young People  aged 12 plus, who are open to Bolton CAMHS

 Art Days

These sessions will be held at CAMHS Department. Bolton Hospital on:

8th August  2017, 1.00pm -3.00pm
10th August 2017, 1.00pm – 3.00pm
These sessions are  open to all children/young people who attend Bolton CAMHS.



21st- 24th August 2016

In partnership with Bolton Youth Council we supported some of our CAMHS young people in attending a Team Building Residential at Brathay Trust in the Lake District. Such an amazing adventure with lots of great friendships made. The residential was aimed at building links with Youth Council and building membership of our jointly facilitated Healthy Minds Youth Forum. The next Youth Forum Meeting is to be held on Tuesday 13th of September at Castle Hill Youth Centre. Like what you see??? Then join us for more fun.

19th August 2016

 Our CAMHS Design Team have been busy over the last few days at our Summer Hack App School! Working with Software Designers and Codesign company Red Ninja they have begun to scope a new CAMHS Mobile App. Funded by Health Education England, we hope the App ‘Net Safety In Your Pocket’ will be available next year. Well done for your hard work guys!

We have had a fabulous day today and produced some amazing art work with community artist Alison Graham. Using collage young people cut out words and images representing the need for equality between physical and mental health. Some time known ‘The Parity of Esteem Agenda’ this equality is very important to us. We hope to share the message through our artwork across Bolton. Watch this space!

3rd August 2016

Well done to the 15 young people who took part in our first ever Feeling Good Summer School over the last 3 days. From the 1st-3rd of August in partnership with Headspace at the Bolton Octagon Theatre we delivered interactive workshop which helped to build the self esteem, confidence and leadership skills of those involved. We left the camera at home to ensure people were at ease! Well done to all involved.

Wowsers have you seen our new reception! The final results from patient takeover day have been revealed, the decorators have been busy and we have made the final touches to our furniture, walkway and fixtures and fittings. Do you like it? What difference does it make?

Our staff images now in large scale, each member of staff has made a pledge as to how they will ensure that we involve, consult and include children, young people and parents in all aspects of our CAMHS service. A large piece of art hangs in reception. The image includes our CAMHS Participation Mission Statement. Both art and mission statement were produced by young people, parents, carers, staff and partners. It hangs in reception as it represents our ethos in providing the best possible, most inclusive care.

We are pleased to announced that in response to being shortlisted for the HSJ Awards last year, we have been asked to be part of the HSJ best practice community for our work around Improving Value in Mental Health.

We are pleased to announce that Jenny Atkinson Clinical Psychologist/Senior Mental Health Practioner is now a fully accredited VIG practitioner and has been elected to be one of the Association of VIG uk board members.

What is Video Interaction Guidance (VIG)?

    • It is an intervention which aims to help improve communication and relationships through the use of video.

This short film was produced with parents at Bolton CAMHS, sharing their experiences of using the Video Interaction Guidance service.

3rd February 2016

We are pleased to announce that Bolton CAMHS is one of the first CAMHS services in the country to successfully upload data under the new Mental Health Data Set (MHDS). Bolton has been used as a pilot project for upload by our Mayden who provide our Electronic Patient Management System (IAPTUS). A big thank you to our Information Governance Department and to Corrine Wallwork for her hard work and clever computer skills.

Noreen Ryan Nurse Consultant at CAMHS has been busy supporting the NICE group that reviewed the evidence base for dietary interventions for SDFHD. Noreen is also a member of the group that wrote the strategic clinical network guidance for ADHD.

25th November 2015

The team took some time to reflect upon our service redesign in our second away day since restructure in January 2015. The event took place at the Friends Meeting House in Bolton and allowed for us to think about the process of service change, to reflect upon our journey and identify challenges and actions for the future.


10th September 2015

Work is under way with CYIAPY to develop the combination therapies curriculum (medication and psychological therapy). This is being supported by Nurse Consultant Noreen Ryan here at Bolton CAMHS.


21st November 2015

Just a few images from the Children’s Commissioners Takeover Day. We invited young people and parents to help us make some changes to our reception area.These changes are based upon what parents and young people have told us they want. We moved furniture, painted walls, made woollen flowers and got creative! This will be a work in progress, we hope to re-paint the walls and get more comfty seating very soon! Please let us know what you think. A huge big thank you to all of you that came out on this freezing day, to make things better for others and get stuck in!

19th November – Presenting at the University of Derby’s DAFT Experts by Experience Systemic Family Therapy Conference

Celebrating the journey of the Young Voices and sharing their experiences with others. After a fantastic presentation delivered at the CYP IAPT North West Participation Conference last year, the Young Voices Group were asked to present at the Univeristy of Derby’s Systemic Family Therapy Conference. The girls were delighted to share their good work.

We are pleased to announced that our CYP IAPT Lead, Charlotte Mitchell, has received the Bolton Foundation Trust Staff Award for Newcomer of the Year 2015. Charlotte has undertaken much work in patient participation and began to support the CAMHS service in putting the views of young people and parents and carers at the centre of how we deliver CAMHS services.

HSJ Award Ceremony 22nd September 2015

Bolton CAMHS were shortlisted for the HSJ Awards under the catergory of ‘Improving Value in Mental Health’ for innvoative ways of generating income for Patient Involvement work within the area of child mental health.

We didn’t win the award but captured an image with a trophy and put Bolton CAMHS on the HSJ map!

NHS HACKDAY 12th and 13th September 2015

NHS Hackday is for Geeks who love the NHS! Our young people had told us that we were out of date and we needed a CAMHS App so we took them to this years Hack Day held in Manchester. Over the Saturday and Sunday young people presented their idea to a bunch of very clever techy people and a number of software developers were interested in working with us. Over the weekend we came up with a plan for an App called NET – Safety in Your Pocket – A mobile safety plan for self harm reduction and management. At the end of the weekend we presented our idea……and……WE WON a Highly Commendable Award. It looks like our App may now happen. If you would like to help us to design it please let us know! And watch this space!


6th July 2015

We are pleased to announce that we were shortlisted for the prestigious Patient Safety Awards 2015 under the category of Mental Health. The judging panel were very impressed with a Film produced by our young people exploring raising awareness of mental health in schools. See our films page for more details. Our Young Voices group were over the moon to attend the Award Ceremony in Birmingham – A big thankyou for their hard work and commitment in making the film.
