GP Direct is part of the Telephone Access and Call Centre at the Royal Bolton Hospital. It has two dedicated phone lines and is supported by members of the Telephone Access Centre. It enables GPs to liaise directly with clinical staff to admit patients to A&E or other areas within the organisation appropriately, while the GP is with the patient concerned. GP Direct books transport for patients and undertakes other relevant administrative tasks. In addition GP Direct staff are responsible for contacting patients who may be placed on standby before admission at weekends and in the evenings after the Booked Admissions Department closes at 7:30p.m.
