We provide a full range of gynaecology and early pregnancy services for planned and emergency assessment, diagnostics and treatment including surgery when needed.

The safety and wellbeing of our women, visitors and staff is of paramount importance.

We ask everyone to respect our measures and work with us to keep people safe. Staff will do everything they can to support women and families to stay connected.

We appreciate your cooperation, understanding and support.

All patients with suspected cancer referred to gynaecology are seen within two weeks by a dedicated specialist teams. We aim to see all patients who are referred to Gynaecology with suspected cancer within seven days.

Our professional team consists of consultant gynaecological, oncologists and specialist nurses, all working together to ensure patients receive individual plans of treatment and care.

The team work hard to ensure that patients are diagnosed early and receive necessary treatment, improving outcomes and quality of life.

We endeavour to provide an assessment consisting of a one stop approach – an immediate ultrasound scan and diagnostic hysteroscopy, if required.

We also work in collaboration with The Christie, who support a weekly oncology clinic in Women’s Health Care.

Hysteroscopy is a diagnostic procedure that investigates the cause of abnormal bleeding from the uterus.

In our outpatient Hysteroscopy Clinic, we diagnose and treat many gynaecological conditions. It is a calm and relaxed environment for patients, supported by friendly specialist health care professionals and offers the advantage of a diagnostic procedure without the need for admission to hospital and undergoing a general anaesthetic.

Urogynaecology is a specialism primarily concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of lower urinary tract and pelvic disorders. We have specialised consultants dedicated to diagnose and treat urogynaecology conditions.

It is within these clinics that we assess and treat urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse and dysfunction as well as other conditions.

Urodynamics is the investigation into the bladder and urethra, we have specialised nurses and clinics dedicated to undertake a series of tests to help identify and diagnose the cause of continence problems.

If you have been trying to have a baby and have not conceived, your GP may refer you to our service.

At your first appointment, you will consult with a doctor. They will ask you questions about your general health and also about how long you have been trying for a baby.

You may then be offered some investigations.

A colposcopy is an investigation to examine the cervix. It is normally carried out on women with abnormal smear results. The procedure uses a colposcope – a special magnifying instrument – to examine the abnormal cells on the cervix.

We hold regular outpatient colposcopy clinics carried out by specialist health care professionals.

Our Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Urgent care unit (M6/M1 wards) is dedicated to women who need urgent and emergency care of an acute gynaecological problem (problems related to the female reproductive system), or of women having a problem in early pregnancy (up to 16 weeks gestation), such as pain, bleeding or severe vomiting.

We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and are located on the first floor via the entrance to Princess Anne Maternity Unit.

If you are experiencing a problem in early pregnancy (up to 16 weeks’ gestation), such as pain, bleeding or severe vomiting you can contact our dedicated Early Pregnancy Telephone Triage Service.

The nurse will assess your problem and where appropriate will advise for you to either be seen immediately in the Emergency Department, or arrange for you to attend to be seen and assessed in our Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

If you are unable to access the service, particularly if you have severe pain or heavy bleeding, please attend A&E. Here you will still be triaged by a team of Nurse Practitioners and Doctors.
