Our Gastroenterology and Hepatology service provides specialist care for people with conditions affecting the digestive tract, liver and pancreato‑biliary system.
How this service works
If you are referred to the Gastroenterology team as an outpatient, you will be invited to attend an appointment with one of our consultants or specialist clinicians. At your first appointment we will:
- discuss your symptoms and medical history
- carry out a physical examination if needed
- arrange any tests required to help us understand your condition, such as blood tests, scans, or a referral to the Endoscopy Unit for procedures such as a gastroscopy or colonoscopy
Once we have your results, we will discuss them with you and explain the options available. Together, we will agree a personalised treatment plan that meets your needs.
Treatment may include:
- dietary advice
- education and support to help you manage your condition
- new or adjusted medication
- referral for surgery
- follow‑up appointments to check on your progress
