Our Haematology Service diagnoses and treats conditions that affect your blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system.
We care for people with both common and more complex blood disorders, offering specialist advice, tests and treatment close to home, in N Block at Royal Bolton Hospital.
How the service works
We support patients of all ages who may have:
- Anaemia or unexplained tiredness
- Problems with blood clotting or bleeding
- Low or high blood counts
- Conditions such as lymphoma, leukaemia or myeloma
- Long‑term blood disorders that need monitoring
If you've been referred to us, it's because your GP or another hospital team wants a specialist opinion to help understand your symptoms or test results.
What to expect at your appointment
Your appointment may include:
- A discussion about your symptoms and medical history
- Blood tests or other investigations
- A care plan tailored to your needs
- Information about treatment options
- Follow‑up appointments if needed
We aim to explain everything clearly and make sure you have time to ask questions.
Anticoagulant service
The anticoagulant service supports people who take blood‑thinning medicines such as warfarin and facilitate switch over to DOACs (direct oral anticoagulants). These medicines reduce how easily your blood clots, and our service helps make sure you take them safely and effectively.
We run clinics across Bolton, where our specialist nurses offer advice, support and blood sampling.
You will usually be referred by your GP or hospital team. Once referred, we will contact you with details of your nearest clinic.
