We support adults in Bolton who need medication delivered directly into a vein, but don't need to be in hospital. Having IV treatment at home or in the community helps many people avoid a hospital stay and continue their recovery in a comfortable, familiar environment.
Common conditions we treat include:
- Skin and soft‑tissue infections (such as cellulitis)
- Diabetic foot infections
- Urine infections
- Respiratory infections
- Some bone and spinal infections
- Certain heart‑related infections
- Some antiviral treatments
A health care professional will decide whether IV treatment at home or in the community is right for you. Depending on your condition you may receive:
At home
- IV antibiotics
- Blood monitoring linked to your treatment
- Blood or platelet transfusions (where appropriate)
- Some specialist infusions for long‑term conditions
If you are having treatment at home, the nurse will bring the equipment required and will ensure everything is done safely.
In our community clinics
Some treatments must be given in a clinic for safety reasons. These may include:
- IV iron infusions
- Treatments for conditions such as rheumatology or inflammatory bowel disease
- Regular procedures such as venesection (removal of a small amount of blood) to manage conditions like haemochromatosis
If you need clinic‑based treatment, we will arrange the location and appointment time with you.
