Who we are

We are one of the North West’s busiest acute and community NHS foundation trusts, serving people across Bolton, other parts of Greater Manchester and the surrounding area.

Our organisation has a ‘Good’ overall rating from the CQC and was last inspected in May 2023.

We are the second busiest ambulance-receiving site in Greater Manchester.

We have around 6,300 substantive staff, working across over 20 sites in Bolton, and providing clinics for various specialties in neighbouring areas, including sexual health services and breast screening.

Our performance is measured against national standards set by the Department of Health and Social Care and our local commissioners, covering areas such as waiting times, infection control and key quality‑of‑care measures.

Our strategy for 2024-2029 set out our vision for the future, and what we will do to make it a reality over the next five years. It has been developed based on the knowledge, experience and ambition we share across our teams and most importantly, based on what matters most to the people we serve – our patients, families and communities.

We aim to:

  • Improve care, transform lives
  • Be a great place to work
  • Be a high performing, productive organisation
  • Be an organisation that’s fit for the future
  • Be a positive partner

Unfair differences in health between different groups of people are more significant in Bolton. 56% of our population live in areas that are amongst the most deprived in the country, and life expectancy varies by more than a decade between our most and least affluent areas. We know that this is likely to contribute towards the overall health and wellbeing of our population.

This means that our role extends beyond treating illness. We are actively working with our communities and system partners in the voluntary sector, local authority, education and primary care to prevent poor health, target support, and tailor services so they are accessible and effective for every community.

Our Way is how we do things here. We lead by example, we make sure everyone feels they belong, and we’re always looking for ways to improve.

Together, this is our blueprint for how we work with each other and our patients, to ensure that we provide safe, high quality and compassionate care to every person every time…for a better Bolton.

This is an exciting time to be a part of our Bolton team. If you’d like to help us shape the future of healthcare in Bolton, take a look at our current vacancies.
