Safe staffing
All NHS Trusts must publish information on nursing and support worker numbers for each shift, including the percentage of shifts that meet safe staffing guidelines.
Hospitals are required to report how many care hours were delivered compared with how many were planned, and this is shown alongside Care Hours per Patient Day (CHPPD) – the average number of care hours each patient receives on a ward.
Publishing this information is important because it helps to show you how we ensure the right staff are in the right place to provide safe, high‑quality care when you need it.
