Our approach to safeguarding
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We are committed to protecting adults, children and young people from abuse, neglect or harm, and ensuring they receive safe, compassionate care.
Every member of our staff has a duty to act if they are worried about someone’s safety or wellbeing.
We work closely with partners across Bolton’s health and social care community so that risks are recognised early and people’s wishes, feelings and beliefs are central to any decisions made.
How we keep people safe
We have strong safeguarding systems in place, including:
- Dedicated safeguarding leads – our Named Nurses and Doctors for Safeguarding oversee both adult and children’s safeguarding, support staff, and coordinate our work with external partners.
- All new staff undergo DBS checks in line with NHS Employer guidance.
- Clear referral pathways so that staff know exactly how to raise concerns if they believe someone is at risk of abuse or neglect.
- Mandatory training for all staff, including the Care Act 2014, safeguarding children, recognising concerns and escalating them appropriately.
- Use of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards to protect people who may lack capacity.
- Safeguarding activity is reported to our Board throughout the year to maintain oversight and drive improvement.
- Regularly auditing and reviewing our systems, processes and Emergency Department safeguarding procedures to make sure they remain effective.
Our commitment
Whether you are an adult, child or young person in our care, your safety, dignity and wellbeing come first.
If you or someone you know is at risk, or if something doesn’t feel right, please speak to a member of staff. We are here to listen and to act.
