Mr David Smith is a highly experienced Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from the University of Liverpool, gaining both a BSc (Hons) and MBChB, and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS).
After completing surgical training across the Mersey and North West deaneries, and a colorectal fellowship at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, he was appointed Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust in January 2012, having previously worked at the Trust as a Specialist Registrar.
Mr Smith is the Clinical Lead for Surgery and leads the Trust’s robotic surgery programme. As the lead surgeon for the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system, he performs a wide range of advanced colorectal and general surgical procedures.

Special interests and research
Mr Smith has special interests in endoscopy, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, management of rectal polyps, early rectal cancer and enhanced recovery programme.
