We’re making improvements to your hospital, so please bear with us.
Over the coming months you may notice areas of development and other site works at Royal Bolton Hospital. We’re working on some exciting new developments to improve our hospital, facilities and the services we provide to you.
Our new main entrance
This autumn, work will begin on our new hospital main entrance.
Improved facilities, alongside a wider choice of food and drink options will offer greater comfort and flexibility for those attending appointments or waiting for loved ones, helping to make time spent at the hospital as pleasant as possible.
The plans also include a new patient drop-off area and dedicated wheelchair store, helping to enhance accessibility and provide additional support for patients and visitors who require assistance when arriving at the hospital.
We expect the new entrance to be complete by Summer 2027.
Maternity and Women’s Health Unit
The development of the new Princess Anne Maternity and Women’s Health Unit is a £38m in maternity and women’s health services.
Once work is complete in mid-2028, the unit will provide:
- A new birthing suite with four modern birthing rooms, each equipped with birthing pools.
- A new seven-bed triage area.
- A new gynaecology and early pregnancy unit, designed to meet modern standards and models of care.
- New transitional care bays for Neonatal services within the postnatal ward.
- Refurbished maternity wards offering spacious, modern environments for women during and after pregnancy.
- New modern entrance and frontage.
The Weaver Unit
We will be opening a 24-bed nursing Intermediate Care Unit in N Block later this year, opposite the main hospital building.
The first floor of N block is being renovated to create the unit, which will provide short-term care to help people recover and regain their independence before returning to the place they call home.
All services will continue to bring together health and social care staff to support people to maximise their independence and support recovery, with high-quality rehabilitation for our patients.
The unit will officially open towards the end of October.
New Laboratory
Preparation has started on the development of a brand new, modern Laboratory facility.
The multi-million-pound building will be located next to J Block, and will be home to our Microbiology and Antenatal Screening services, alongside some other teams.
The building will include a new specialist laboratory for serious infections, improving our ability to detect and manage infectious diseases quickly and provide the best care.
We expect the work to be completed by spring 2027.
We’re still here for you
As with all developments, there may be some disruption when you visit the site, including temporary entrance closures or diversions put in place.
If you can, please check our website and social media channels before you travel in case of any real-time updates to services.
There will be signage in place on site to guide you to the area of the hospital you need. Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we continue to work on these new developments.
