We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Councillor David Chadwick.
David was born and raised in Bolton and dedicated his life to serving the town’s communities in a wide variety of roles.
During his time as Mayor of Bolton in 2025/2026, Councillor Chadwick chose Our Bolton NHS Charity as one of his three mayoral charities, after he received life-saving care on our Critical Care Unit in 2024.
It was a real privilege to host David for a tour of Royal Bolton Hospital where he met some of the staff that cared for him, and we were honoured to be invited to Bolton Town Hall by David for the presentation of a £6,000 cheque in support of our Critical Care Garden project.
Speaking at the time, David said:
“I was admitted to the Critical Care Unit in November 2024 and remained there until February the following year, which I can safely say was not in my diary.
“It cannot be any surprise that I am very grateful to the Unit and the wonderful staff working there.
“At every level the staff are kind, caring and have empathy with their patients. I was able to be taken down to a memorial garden, which after spending so long in hospital was wonderful to feel the fresh air. Something we all take for granted.
“The Unit has been given their own piece of land and I hope the money I am giving them today will enable them to create a new garden, which will offer reflection and tranquillity, and with any luck a bit of Boltonian sunshine!”
Before he was first elected into Bolton Council in 1998, David worked in the textile industry, and later joined Royal Bolton Hospital as a Health and Safety Officer and Computer Services Manager.
