What to expect at your appointment
What happens at your appointment depends on the reason you are attending, but you may have blood tests, an ultrasound scan, a vaginal or pelvic examination or other diagnostic procedures.
Our Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Urgent Care Unit
We provide specialist care for women who need urgent help with an acute gynaecological problem or an issue in early pregnancy (up to 16 weeks), such as pain, bleeding or severe sickness.
We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you're worried about something in early pregnancy, you can contact our Early Pregnancy Telephone Triage Service. One of our experienced nurses will talk through your symptoms, offer reassurance, and advise whether you need to be seen in the Emergency Department straight away or whether we can arrange an appointment for you in our Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.
If you're unable to reach the service, or if you are experiencing severe pain or heavy bleeding, please come to ED. You'll be assessed promptly by our team of nurse practitioners and doctors.
We understand that early pregnancy concerns can be worrying, and some women who come to us may sadly be experiencing pregnancy loss. Our team is here to support you with sensitivity and care at every step.
