A team of nurses who champion the safety of vulnerable adults and protect them from abuse and neglect have been recognised for their work in empowering Bolton’s communities.
The Adult Safeguarding team at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust won the Innovation award at the National Safeguarding Adults Board Managers Excellence Awards.
Over the past three years, Lead Nurse for Adult Safeguarding, Sheila Mooney, Safeguarding Nurse, Megan Jones, and MCA/DoLS Lead, Helen Jones, have transformed safeguarding practice by embedding a culture of empowerment at every level so that patients are more informed, involved and confident in the safeguarding process.
Staff at the Trust have been supported to raise concerns, advocate for vulnerable adults, and engage in safeguarding with confidence, which has resulted in an increase in safeguarding referrals from frontline staff.
Sheila Mooney, Lead Nurse for Adult Safeguarding at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“We are passionate about creating a learning environment where every voice is valued and we consistently receive positive feedback from patients and carers who tell us they feel heard, supported and safe.
“By empowering staff and patients we’re able to change lives and make sure every person who needs our care can get the support they need. It’s about making sure we see every individual, hear their needs and work together to achieve the best possible outcome.
“From challenging inappropriate placements to supporting individuals experiencing self-neglect, our team has consistently advocated for dignity, safety, and better outcomes.”
The National Safeguarding Adults Board Managers Excellence Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of professionals and team across the Safeguarding Adult Board in England who go over and above to safeguard adults and their families.
