People across Bolton are being invited to help shape the future of their local NHS by becoming a governor at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust is currently holding an election for 10 public governors in the following constituencies:

  • Bolton North East (3 vacancies)
  • Bolton South East (1 vacancy)
  • Bolton West (4 vacancies)
  • Rest of England (2 vacancies)

The key role of governors is to review, question and provide challenge to make sure the organisation is running effectively and smoothly as a business.

One of our public governors, Dave Bagley, shared what it means to him to play an active role in his local NHS.

Sharon Katema, Director of Corporate Governance and Trust Secretary, said:

“Our governors play and important and serious role in holding our Board to account and ensuring our services are meeting the needs of people in Bolton.

“With our support, governors act as a vital link between patients, the public and the Board of Directors by reflecting the views of communities and members.

“At a time when the future of NHS governors is under national review, governors continue to play a vital role in representing local communities and ensuring public voices help shape the future of our Trust.

“If you are someone who wants to champion the needs of our communities and learn more about the workings of the NHS and health services, then we can’t wait to hear from you.”

Nominations close at 5pm on Thursday 6 August 2026. Details on how to stand for election and submit a nomination can be found on Bolton NHS Foundation Trust’s website.
