- Dozens of children’s books donated to Royal Bolton Hospital’s Neonatal Unit
- Jess Hobson delivered a range of Usborne books with the support of Bolton businesses
- Donation coincides with World Book Day 2026 on Thursday 5 March
Dozens of children’s books have been generously donated to Royal Bolton Hospital’s Neonatal Unit to celebrate World Book Day 2026.
Jess Hobson, who is an Usborne Community Partner, delivered a range of books for families to read to their new born babies whilst in hospital.
The hospital means a lot to Jess and her family, giving birth to her own son, Reuben, in 2025, her mum currently works at the hospital and her nan spent many years working at the hospital too.
“It’s lovely to have been given this opportunity to help such a great cause. I chose Royal Bolton Hospital as I had my little boy there in 2025 and he didn’t have the easiest entrance to the world, however all the staff there were amazing and helped me through it every step of the way.
“It is an amazing feeling that I can provide beautiful Usborne books to help families create memories with their babies. As a nursery practitioner myself, I know just how important books are from an early age in development and I love that I can provide this opportunity to the families who are currently on the unit and families to come in the future.
“I would like to say a special thank you to everyone that has donated as without them it wouldn’t be possible to have raised this money for such an important and amazing place. I would also like to thank the businesses that have kindly gifted vouchers; Bella Bakes, Swims Away LTD, Nails by Kay, Dolly Aesthetics, Monte Carlo Cafe, Bay Mare, The Old Three Crowns, Bolton Town Wrestling, Lashes by KMT, Balloons That Bloom, AB Crafts, Ocean Aesthetics and Happy Home Cleaning.
“It has been truly amazing to see the local community coming together to help raise money for the babies and their families.”
World Book Day is celebrated every year on the first Thursday of March and aims to inspire children to enjoy the life-changing benefits of reading for fun.
Sarah Skinner, Our Bolton NHS Charity Manager, said:
We’re really grateful to Jess and the businesses that supported her with this donation of children’s books to our Neonatal Unit.
“Being able to read a book to your newborn baby is a special way to bond and connect as a family. We know these books will help parents, siblings and babies create special early memories whilst they’re cared for on what can be a busy hospital ward environment.
