Chaplaincy
Our multi faith Chaplaincy Team, based at Royal Bolton Hospital, provides emotional, spiritual and religious support for patients and families of all faiths and beliefs, including those who do not follow a particular religion.
The team can help with cultural or religious needs, offer bedside visits, and provide support during end‑of‑life care and bereavement. Chaplains work closely with clinical teams, particularly in palliative, end‑of‑life and maternity services, to make sure your spiritual, cultural or religious needs are respected throughout your care.
While the Chaplaincy Team mainly supports inpatients, they may also support patients or families in the community when needed.
Patients and visitors can use our on‑site faith spaces, which include a chapel for Christians, a mosque with wudu facilities, and a Hindu temple. These are located in the hospital and the Faith Facilities building on the hospital site. Although these reflect the main faith groups in our local community, the team will always do their best to support the needs of people from any religion or belief background.
You can contact the Chaplaincy Team directly if you would like a visit or need support. The office is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5pm, and on Sundays from 7am to 12pm. During office hours you can call 01204 390770 or email chaplaincy@boltonft.nhs.uk. If you contact the office outside these hours, the team will respond the next working day.
For urgent support outside office hours, ward staff can contact the appropriate on‑call chaplain through the hospital switchboard on 01204 390390. A 24‑hour on‑call system is in place for Roman Catholic, Muslim and Hindu faiths, as well as a generic chaplain covering all other Christian denominations and people who do not follow a particular faith.
Our Baby Memorial Garden
Our Bolton NHS Charity has funded a Baby Memorial Garden within the hospital grounds, a quiet, peaceful place where families can spend time in reflection and display personalised memory plaques in honour of their babies.
The garden, along with all events related to baby loss, is managed by our Chaplaincy Team. Each year they host a baby remembrance service in March (held at a local venue), and a Wave of Light gathering in the garden during Baby Loss Awareness Week in October.
If you would like more information, please email babygarden@boltonft.nhs.uk.
