- Wave of Light service on 15 October offers a chance to remember babies lost during pregnancy, birth or infancy
- The event includes candle lighting, reflection and support for families affected by baby loss.
- Families can apply for a baby plaque, with a Baby Garden tidy-up planned ahead of the service.
People across Bolton are warmly invited to join Bolton NHS Foundation Trust’s annual Wave of Light service at Royal Bolton Hospital.
The event provides a space for people to remember and honour babies who sadly died during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy, and to acknowledge the lasting impact of loss on parents, families and loved ones.
The Wave of Light service, which is held to mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October), will take place at 7pm on Thursday 15 October in the hospital’s Baby Memorial Garden.
Candles will be provided for people to light in memory of the precious babies, as well as light refreshments.
Reverend Catherine Binns, Deputy Head Chaplain at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“This special occasion offers an opportunity to come together in remembrance, reflection and support.
“We hope by raising awareness of the impact of baby loss we can reduce some of the barriers parents can feel and remind them they are not alone and that support is available.”
Baby Garden Plaques

Baby Garden reminder
We would like to gently remind families who have a baby plaque in the garden that, as agreed when completing the Baby Plaque application form, only fresh flowers may be placed in the Baby Garden.
To help maintain the garden as a peaceful, safe, and welcoming space for all families, we kindly ask that soft toys, ornaments, solar lights, balloons, artificial flowers, and other mementoes are not left in the garden.
Tidying our Baby Garden
In preparation for the Wave of Light service, a tidy of the Baby Garden will take place on Wednesday 7 October.
Any items found within the garden that are not permitted under the Baby Garden guidelines will be carefully removed. These items will be stored for three months to allow families the opportunity to collect them if they wish. After this period, any unclaimed items will be respectfully disposed of.
