Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is encouraging people across Bolton to consider volunteering for their local NHS, as the organisation celebrates Volunteers’ Week.

Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June) is an annual celebration of the thousands of people who give their time to support others across the UK.

This year, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is using the occasion to highlight the vital role volunteers play in NHS care, and to invite more local people to get involved.

In Bolton, more than 500 volunteers already give over 20,000 hours of their time each year to their local NHS – helping patients navigate hospitals and community sites, providing companionship, supporting staff, and making the experience of care more human.

From meet and greet to ward support, our volunteers make a real difference every day to patients, families and carers, and to NHS staff.

Fiona Noden, Chief Executive at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“Every contribution our volunteers make has a meaningful impact on the experience of our patients and on the support they provide to our staff. We are deeply grateful that they choose to spend their valuable free time with us.

“Volunteering is a truly powerful way of giving back to the community you are part of, and this year, with 502 volunteers supporting the Trust, they represent an extraordinary community in their own right.

“We thank them for everything they do. Volunteering is a great step into an NHS career, and we’re always welcoming people to join our team of volunteers here in Bolton.”

Whether you are retired, studying, working, or simply looking to give something back, there is very likely a volunteering role that suits your time, skills and experience. Roles are flexible and open to people of all ages and backgrounds – no specific experience is needed, just a willingness to help.
