Our urgent care services are extremely busy – here’s how you can help us

Ambulances parked outside the entrance of Royal Bolton Hospital's Emergency Department

We’re currently dealing with significant pressures across our urgent care and hospital services.

Our teams are working incredibly hard to manage demand and make sure people get the care they need as quickly as possible, but we’re asking for your support too.

When should I use the Emergency Department?

There are currently long waits to be seen in our Emergency Department. Please only attend in a life or limb-threatening emergency.

Our sickest patients will always be seen first, so if your condition or illness isn’t an emergency you may be seen much quicker elsewhere.

What other NHS services are available?

NHS 111 online is the best place to start if you’re unsure about where to go.

For minor conditions or illnesses, visit your local pharmacy or GP. If it’s out of hours and can’t wait until the next day, you can contact the GP out of hours service directly on 0161 763 8940.

When you use the right NHS services, you get the right treatment sooner. We’ve shared a full list of services available in Bolton on our website.

Visiting our services

To help keep everyone safe, please do not visit someone in hospital if you are unwell, especially if you have symptoms of COVID 19, flu, diarrhoea and vomiting, or other infectious illnesses.

Remember to regularly wash your hands with soap using our sinks throughout the hospital or the anti-bacterial hand gels.

By taking simple steps like this, we can help stop the spread of germs and keep our patients, staff, and visitors safe and well.
