A Bolton cancer survivor is to set off on an extraordinary cycling endurance challenge across the North of England and Wales to raise money for Our Bolton NHS Charity and celebrate 78 years of the NHS.
Gareth Price, owner of Bolton Spin Studio, decided to set up the event after receiving treatment from Royal Bolton Hospital for lymphoma in 2025.
After six rounds of chemotherapy and two rounds of Rituximab, Gareth received the news that he was cancer-free.
To mark this life-changing milestone, on Friday 3 July Gareth and a group of close friends will cycle 750 kilometres, taking on 7,500 metres of climbing, across five incredible days.
Gareth said:
“This is a journey of endurance, gratitude, and impact by turning miles into meaningful change for patients, families and the future of cancer care through the power of fundraising.
“There’s a deeply personal commitment from us all to donate 100% of the money raised directly to Bolton’s Haematology Day Unit, which provides specialist treatment and support to those with cancer.
“The team supported me during my own cancer journey and I’m now channelling my determination into giving back, driven by a desire to help the Unit and staff become even stronger for future patients.”
The cycling event will see him set off from outside the main entrance of Royal Bolton Hospital at 7.30am on Friday 3 July, then riding through beautiful settings including Snowdonia, Chester, Lancaster and York, before returning to the hospital on Tuesday 7 July.
“The route is as demanding as it is inspiring. We’re facing 7,500 metres of climbing, which is the equivalent of ascending Ben Nevis every single day of the challenge and that’s on top of the relentless distance.”

Gareth explained how special it is to be raising money during the NHS’ 78th birthday celebrations.
“Like many of us, I have had my fair share of interactions with the NHS, but the moment that shaped my passion for fundraising came when my daughter was born at Royal Bolton Hospital.
“I was able to see first-hand the compassion, dedication and skill of NHS staff, which is something that has never left me.
“To cycle during the NHS birthday makes it not only a personal milestone but also a tribute to the incredible institution and people who provide care to millions of us every single day.”
People can support Gareth’s fundraising by donating on his online JustGiving page.
Staff, patients and people across Bolton are also invited to wave off Gareth and his friends from the main entrance of Royal Bolton Hospital on Friday 3 July from 7.15am as they set off on their epic cycling fundraiser at 7.30am.
