Heartfelt thanks to nurses who cared for Our Bolton NHS Charity supporter on his journey to be cancer free

Gareth Price surrounded by the Haematology Day Unit nurses who cared for him

An Our Bolton NHS Charity supporter has shared his heartfelt thanks to the nurses who supported him during his cancer treatment at Royal Bolton Hospital.

On Monday 11 May, Gareth Price rang the bell on the Haematology Day Unit to symbolise the end of his cancer journey, after being diagnosed with lymphoma in 2025.

After six rounds of chemotherapy and two rounds of Rituximab, Gareth recently received the news that he was cancer-free.

To celebrate International Nurses Day 2026 (12 May), Gareth paid tribute to the nurses who were by his side every step of the way.

“I don’t know how these guys do it day after day, but their humour and their energy and their passion for what goes on in here is unbelievable.

“I wasn’t really looking forward to ringing the bell because I said all my thank yous, but I can see the value not just for the patient, but for the staff, and you know it signifies a springboard forward.

“I’m not completely well yet, but the cancer’s gone and that is amazing. I can’t believe that something that was there back in summer last year has been obliterated by the treatment and the positive attitude of the guys in this ward.

“It’s just amazing.”
