A new tool that aims to help spot risks during pregnancy is being made available for pregnant women in Bolton.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is taking part in the PARTNER Trial, which uses the Tommy’s Pathway, a new web-based tool designed to help improve outcomes for women and pregnant people.

From Monday 6 July, the Clinical Decision Support Tool aims to help doctors and midwives pinpoint the specific needs of women in early pregnancy and helping pregnant people to make informed decisions about their care.

Dr Khalida Javaid, Consultant Obstetrician and Local Lead, said:

“We want to make sure all our women have the best possible outcomes during their pregnancy and this new web tool will support our highly skilled midwives and doctors to spot any potential risks.

“The tool pulls together the most up-to-date national guidelines and a series of assessments to help us provide personalised care recommendations and ensure people get the care they need at the right time.

“We’re proud to be taking part in research that has the power to save and change the lives of people living in Bolton.”

The PARTNER Trial will investigate whether the web tool, developed by the Tommy’s National Centre for Maternity Improvement, can reduce complications such as pre-eclampsia, stillbirth and preterm birth by comparing the care of those who have used the tool and those who haven’t.

This study will aim to involve 62,400 NHS women and pregnant people in maternity units in England, including at Royal Bolton Hospital.
