Dr Andrews joined the Trust in August 2018 and as well as being a consultant in our Emergency Medicine Department, he is also our Medical Director, sitting on the Trust Board.

Dr Andrews qualified at Leeds University in 1990 and held junior doctor posts in Birmingham and Sheffield before completing his higher training in West Yorkshire and Merseyside. He has worked at Whiston Hospital, Prescot and Merseyside, where he worked as Consultant in Critical Care/Emergency Medicine, and was also Assistant Medical Director.

Special interests and research

Dr Andrews has special interests in: clinical leadership, patient experience, healthcare informatics, human factors, infection control, resuscitation, sepsis, and head injury.

He was previously a lecturer in Intensive Care Medicine, at the University of Liverpool and has completed research on the effect of nutritional supplementation on immune function in critically ill patients; clinical trial work in non-invasive ventilation and sepsis.
