One of Dr Halsteads’ specialist interests is in stroke medicine and she became Lead Clinician for Stroke in 2001.
She also has an interest in medical education and training, particularly for specialist registrars in geriatric medicine. She was actively involved in the development of the MSc in geriatric medicine at Salford University and was an honorary lecturer there from 2001 to 2010.
Dr Gillian Halstead works in the following services:
We provide treatment for older patients (although there is no lower age limit) across our five complex care wards as well as outpatients, and have close links with orthopaedic and surgical wards. We have specialist clinics for conditions such as falls and Parkinson’s disease and work closely with the members of the wider team such as physiotherapists to provide care for all aspects of the patients’ health and promote independence where possible.
The stroke service looks after all patients admitted with a new diagnosis of stroke and provides care back into the community. The specialist team will assess and plan care with your involvement from your admission to transfer into the community .
