Mr Chiu studied Dentistry at the University of Manchester obtaining a BDS in 1997. He was awarded the MFDS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999. He went onto study Medicine at Leeds University qualifying with a MB ChB in 2003. The MRCS was awarded in 2005. Specialty surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was undertaken in the North West of England. During his training, he obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCert MedEd) from the University of Dundee in 2009 and a Masters in Surgical Science from the University of Oxford in 2012. A Fellowship in facial aesthetics and reconstruction was also completed
He was awarded the FRCS(OMFS) in 2014. He worked as a Consultant at Royal Derby Hospital before coming to work jointly at Bolton Hospitals Foundation Trust and East Lancashire Hospitals Trust in November 2018.
Special Interests and Research
Mr Chiu has a specialist interest in facial deformity, facial trauma and reconstruction. He is one of the Chief Investigators for the Saving Faces research charity and is on the editorial advisory board for the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a complete service relating to conditions of the face, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment and treatment service for common oral surgical conditions. The department provides a diagnostic and/or treatment service for conditions affecting oral medicine (ulcers and infections of the mouth), diagnosis and treatment of facial pain, diagnosis and treatment of jaw pain, and dentoalveolar surgery (difficult tooth extraction).
