AO.com donation to improve staff wellbeing at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust

  • Fridge/freezer and radio has been donated for staff at the Royal Bolton Hospital
  • Bolton organisations working together to mark International Nurses Day

AO.com have donated a fridge freezer and radio for hard working and dedicated staff working at Royal Bolton Hospital.

The donation from the electrical retailer, which is based in Bolton, installed the items in the rest area for staff working on the Acute Medical Unit 1 (AMU1). This unit is the next step following on from the Emergency Department and is extremely busy supporting patients in need of high levels of care.

It’s after members of the team were looking to purchase new appliances with their funds and approached AO.com for the best deal. The Smile team at AO.com decided to go one step further and offered to donate the fridge freezer and radio free of charge.

Laura Stansbury, the Ward Manager of the AMU said:

The team work tirelessly, under extreme pressure to deliver exceptional care to everyone when they find themselves at their most vulnerable, which can take its toll.

“We are always looking for ways to keep our staff smiling and to recognise and reward their efforts. One way that we do this is by fundraising to be able to offer small treats and equipment for the staff room, to make break times more relaxing and restful.

“Staff working shifts at the hospital can struggle at break times as the on site canteen is closed in the evenings and there is nowhere to store any food from home.

The equipment will be delivered in time for International Nurses Day on Monday 12 May, which highlights the critical role a healthy workforce plays in strengthening economies, improving health systems and ensuring better outcomes for our communities.

Vicky Monk, group marketing director at AO, said:

We’re absolutely delighted to mark International Nurses Day with this donation.

“As a business with roots firmly in Bolton, many of our AOers and their families rely on the care provided by Royal Bolton Hospital, so it means a lot to be able to give something back to the amazing staff on AMU1.

“They go above and beyond for their patients every day, so hopefully the new fridge freezer and digital radio can make their well-deserved downtime even more enjoyable.
