People across Bolton are invited to join a special candle-lit service at Royal Bolton Hospital to remember babies who sadly died too soon.
The annual Wave of Light event is taking place on Wednesday 15 October in the hospital’s Baby Memorial Garden to mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week.
The service is an opportunity for bereaved parents, families and friends to come together and reflect by lighting a candle during the service, which will also feature music and poems.
Reverend Catherine Binns, Deputy Head Chaplain at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:
Baby loss sadly affects many of us and we hope our Wave of Light services provides a space where people can feel safe and supported, whilst remembering their babies.
“Baby Loss Awareness Week provides us with an opportunity to highlight the support that is available and let people know that they are not alone in their grief.
“Our Chaplaincy team will be there on the night to be a listening ear and we’ll also be joined by our Bereavement Midwives and Nurses who can help direct people to the support they need.
The event starts at 6.45pm and battery-lit candles will be provided to those attending.
The Trust is looking for volunteers to help tidy the Baby Memorial Garden on Monday 13 October from 4pm to make sure the garden looks the best it can be.
People can offer their time and support by contacting babygarden@boltonft.nhs.uk.
Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place from Thursday 9 – Wednesday 15 October to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss and remember much-loved and missed babies.
This year’s theme is ‘Together, we care’ and is about finding time for self-care, and care for others, as part of a community of people affected by all forms of pregnancy and baby loss.
