Professional background

After qualifying with M.B.B.S. at the Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University India, Dr Balasubramaniam went on to train as D.A. – Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India and also FRCA – the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London.

He previously worked at:

  • University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff
  • Clinical fellow in cardiac anaesthesia at Southampton University Hospitals NHS FT
  • Completed intermediate and higher anaesthetic training at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals
  • York Teaching Hospital

‘Outcome of Urgent Re-sternotomy after cardiac Surgery’

Retrospective review, 75 cases, undertaken as a co-Investigator and presented as an Oral paper at ACTA meeting, Blackpool 2009 and as poster at EACTA, Edinburgh 2010.

‘Reduction in both intravenous and volatile anaesthetic requirement during cardiopulmonary bypass with bispectral index monitoring’

Randomised controlled trial, 80 patients, involved as a co-investigator and completed the trail. Preliminary data presented at EACTA, Montpellier, 2005
