Professional background

After completing initial studies in India (securing MBBS in 2000 and MD medicine in 2004), Dr. Wig gained further higher qualifications in rheumatology in the UK training in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West. She obtained MRCP (UK) in 2006, MRCP (Rheumatology) in 2010 and a Masters in Clinical Rheumatology degree with merit from the University of Manchester in 2012.

She was appointed as Consultant Rheumatologist at Bolton in January 2013 and is the audit lead for Rheumatology at the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. She is also an honorary lecturer in Musculoskeletal and Dermatological Sciences within the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Manchester. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2015.

Special interests and research

Dr. Wig looks after patients with varied rheumatology problems: rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, giant cell arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia (chronic pain syndrome), hypermobility, Lupus and other connective tissue diseases, gout, Ankylosing spondylitis, vasculitis etc.

Special interests of Dr. Wig are early inflammatory arthritis, MSK ultrasound, chronic pain syndrome (fibromyalgia), hypermobility and ankylosing spondylitis.

Research: Her research project entitled ‘A longitudinal study of ankle brachial pressure indices in a cohort of patients with systemic sclerosis’, led to the award of her Master’s degree.
