Dr Rafique trained in Yorkshire, West Midlands and the Northwest and completed his specialist training in respiratory medicine in district and teaching hospitals across Greater Manchester. He also worked as an Academic Teaching Fellow in Medical Education at the University of Sussex, and as a member of faculty at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

Dr Rafique came to work as a consultant at Bolton NHS FT in April 2017 and is a professional member of the British Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society and the National Junior Honour Society of the United States.

Special Interests and Research

Dr Rafique has expertise across all aspects of general respiratory medicine with sub-specialist interests in airway inflammation/diseases, pleural diseases and interstitial lung disease.

Dr Rafique was a Research Fellow in Airway Inflammation and Pharmacology at the Northwest Lung Centre/Medicines Evaluation Unit, Manchester, UK, studying new pharmacodynamic and physiological biomarkers in asthma related clinical drug trials.

He completed a two year research programme with experience in performing clinical/basic science research with an understanding of clinical drug trials in respiratory medicine, being sub-investigator in many of them.

Dr Rafique has also conducted pedagogic research exploring the role of mobile technology in medical education with posters in international teaching and learning conferences. He has had a paper published in BMC Medical Education, and received a cash award for the Best Poster at the International Medical Education Conference (IMEC), Kuala Lampur, 2009.

Respiratory

The award-winning respiratory service provides inpatient and outpatient services to all patients with respiratory disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, tuberculosis and lung cancer. The respiratory service offers full hospital services, supported by colleagues from The Christie and Wythenshawe and by a team of specialist nurses which provides a seven day service to both inpatients and outpatients, as well as home visits as required.
