Accessing NHS services in Bolton during Easter

  • Public asked to choose the right service for their healthcare needs
  • Use NHS 111 if unsure on which service to choose
  • Advice to prepare ahead of the long weekend for any repeat prescriptions

NHS services across Bolton are reminding people how to access urgent care during Easter.

The bank holiday weekend traditionally sees an increase in the number of people attending hospital services.

NHS 111 has clinicians on hand to offer expert medical advice and direct people to the most appropriate care.

The service can be accessed online or by phone but during busy periods it’s advised to use the online service.

If someone’s condition is life-threatening they should attend the emergency department where staff will be ready to help.

This might include:

  • Severe chest pains
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Bleeding you can’t stop
  • Possible broken bones
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Stroke symptoms
  • Severe tummy pain or headache
  • A child who is very unwell

Dr. Francis Andrews, Medical Director at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:

We absolutely want people to have fun and enjoy their long weekend, but ask that they take care and if they do need to use healthcare services then to choose the one most appropriate for their needs.

“We are always here to help, although we do see those who need our help most first, so if your condition is not serious you may wait for several hours and you may be best seeking alternative care.

“Please use 111 online if you are not sure about the best place to go.

Opening times for services such as pharmacies, walk in centres and GP practices may change over the Easter bank holiday, so residents are advised to plan ahead to make sure they know where to go for help.

Francis added:

Please make sure you have prepared before the bank holiday weekend by ordering any repeat prescriptions in plenty of time.

“Some local pharmacies will be open during the weekend and will be able to help with a number of minor conditions.

Pharmacy opening times can be found online.
