Dr Wheatley has previously worked in the Yorkshire region and the North West and has worked for Bolton NHS Foundation Trust since 1998.
Dr Wheatley has special interests in intensive care, trauma, paediatrics, difficult airway and patient safety.
She has been involved in research into intensive care.
