Dr Raza gained an MBBS in Pakistan at the Punjab University. He then carried out his postgraduate medical training in Pakistan and the UK. He passed the MRCP (UK) examination in 1986 and then carried out research in the Occupational Lung Disease Unit, Wythenshawe Hospital and submitted his thesis for award of MSc from Manchester University. Higher medical training was carried out in Respiratory Medicine Units in the Northwest.
Dr Raza took up his consultant post at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust in 2002. Subsequently he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP).
Dr Raza has a special interest in interstitial lung disease and conducted research into occupational lung disease.
