Community Diagnostic Centre contractors Overbury donate to Our Bolton NHS Charity

  • Overbury donate to Our Bolton NHS Charity
  • Construction firm are fitting out Bolton’s new Community Diagnostic Centre
  • Money donated for health talks and supported with a refresh of the Baby Memorial Garden

A generous donation has been made to Our Bolton NHS Charity by Overbury, the construction firm behind the fit out of Bolton’s new multi-million pound Community Diagnostic Centre.

Over the past few months, teams from Bolton NHS Foundation Trust have spread life-saving health messages through health talks to Overbury and their sub-contracted employees working within the construction site, in return for donations to the Trust’s official charity partner for each talk.

Dozens of construction staff joined the sessions to learn more about a range of important health issues, including smoking, lung functions and exposure to harmful particles, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

David Vaal, Managing Director of Overbury’s Northern business, said:

At Overbury we are passionate about giving back and adding value to the communities in which we work.

Overbury donated gifts to the enhanced care team for patients at Christmas

At Christmas, Overbury donated to Our Bolton NHS Charity’s Amazon Wish List, which is made up of items that support the mental health and wellbeing of children who stay and visit Ward E5 all year round.

The hospital’s older patients, who are more likely to be in hospital over Christmas and often without family, benefitted from Overbury’s support too through donations of toiletry gift sets.

Overbury staff also volunteered their time to draw up landscaping plans and carried out the groundwork for a refresh of the hospital’s Baby Memorial Garden and fitted a new carpet in the hospital chapel.

David added:

As well as supporting the Our Bolton NHS charity for the Memorial Baby Garden, we’ve also offered health talks on topics such as prostate and testicular cancer awareness, giving up smoking, and lung health awareness.

“These talks have been vital in providing our construction teams with the information and support they need to identify early symptoms of these conditions.

Sarah Skinner, Charity Manager at Our Bolton NHS Charity, said:

Partnerships such as this have the power to make a real difference at every stage of a person’s life, from young people on our children’s ward to patients who are with us much later in their lives.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Overbury for not only their donations to Our Bolton, but for their time and effort in helping us to transform parts of our hospital that are really special to our communities.

Sharon White, Director of Strategy, Digital and Transformation at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:

The delivery of health talks on really important issues that matter to Overbury staff has been a unique way of empowering people with information and support to make positive changes and to better aware of different symptoms and conditions.

Bolton’s new state-of-the-art Community Diagnostic Centre will improve access to vital tests and scans, such as X-ray, CT and MRI, once the doors open to patients in the coming weeks.

More information about the new centre can be found on the Trust’s website.
